Chamber Introduces Green Business Initiative, the Green Leadership Council

The Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce (NACC) is pleased to announce the official launch of its newest initiative, the Green Leadership Council (GLC), on Monday, January 11, 2010. The Official Kick-Off Event will be held at the Chamber Office at 55 S. Main Street, Suite 351 in Downtown Naperville at 7:30am and will include a wide range of invited guests including elected officials.

The GLC Mission is to provide education in sustainable initiatives and promote economic growth through environmentally friendly actions to all of the diverse business and community members of the NACC. The GLC vision is to be viewed and accepted by the community as the regional voice for sustainable business practices.

John Schmitt, President of NACC, explained that the formation of this group was a natural outcome of the increasing focus on the triple bottom line for businesses – people, planet, and profit – that emphasizes profitability through environmentally friendly business practices that are sustainable. Mr. Schmitt further noted that the excitement has been building for this initiative inside and outside the business community ever since the first meeting was held for this Ad Hoc group on October 19, 2009.

Co-Chairmen Dr. Everton Walters of WCP Solar Services, LLC and Bob Lee of Lee and Ghandour Architects are currently leading the group that has laid out plan that will include a green expo, seminars, and workshops. In addition, the GLC plans to explore programs that recognize businesses for their environmentally friendly practices and encourage others to get on board.

Participation in the GLC will be limited to Chamber members. For further information, members and non-members are encouraged to contact Tami Andrew, Vice President of Operations and Member Services at 630-544-3356.
