Evangelical Free Church of
Naperville – Dale Hummel
The Evangelical Free Church was started by a few
families in downtown Naperville in 1957. The church
originally met in a bank, but by 1985 had moved into
a purpose built worship center. Today the church
offers five services each week as well as organizing
numerous community and family events.
Family Shelter Service –
Karen Kuchar
Family Shelter Service was founded in 1976 by a group of caring
and concerned individuals who wanted to help the growing numbers
of homeless people in DuPage County. It quickly became apparent
that shelter for victims of domestic violence was a critical and
overlooked issue. The Family Shelter Service provides a 24 hour
a day hotline and operates with a 43 bed capacity.
Giving DuPage - Kathy Blair
Giving DuPage exists to promote giving and volunteering in
Dupage County. Through its weekend of service held each
September, its annual seasonal giving guide and its interactive
website, Giving DuPage provides year-round opportunities for
businesses and individuals to share their time, talent and
resources with not-for-profit organizations serving our
community.
Heritage YMCA Group - Tom
Beerntsen
The Heritage YMCA Group got its start just 18 years after Thomas
Sullivan founded the first YMCA in the USA in 1851 in Boston,
Massachusetts. Their rich heritage includes the histories of
both the Aurora Family YMCA and the Naperville Area YMCA, two
pioneering Ys that celebrated their consolidation on January 8,
2000 and the Oswego YMCA which opened in June, 2001. The
Heritage YMCA Group builds strong kids, strong families, and
strong communities with programs promoting character development
in the areas of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility.
Kidz Kaberet – Kandiss
Hernandez
Kidz Kabaret is a no-audition children’s theater group that
fosters self-confidence in its students as they explore their
creative talents. Its parent company, Fair Lady Productions,
further challenges the more experienced young actors. The two
groups average eight to ten professional productions a year at
The Comedy Shrine in downtown Naperville.
Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry
- Charles McLimans
The Loaves & Fishes Community pantry has been working to end
hunger in Naperville since 1984. The organization, which runs
services such as senior citizen home meal delivery and school
breakfast programs, has continued to grow throughout its 24 year
history.
Naperville CARES - Janet
Derrick
Naperville CARES began as a grassroots organization of
congregations and individuals in the Naperville area that helped
low-income families and individuals in our midst and is
committed to helping all those in need regardless of religious
beliefs. Over the years, Naperville CARES has developed
additional programs and services to meet the needs identified in
a community needs assessment. Currently, there are no local
agencies or organizations providing the services offered by
Naperville CARES.
North Central College – Hal
Wilde
North Central College is an independent, comprehensive college
of the liberal arts and sciences affiliated with The United
Methodist Church and enrolling over 2,529 students, including
some 2,187 full-time undergraduates and over 650 part-time
undergraduate and graduate students.
Samaritan Interfaith Counseling Center
- Dr. Scott Mitchell
Samaritan Interfaith Counseling Center is a non-profit agency
providing faith-based counseling and psychotherapy for
individuals, couples, families and groups. The areas of
treatment include: depression; marital and family conflict;
couples communication; anxiety disorders; grief and loss;
adjustment to divorce, re-marriage and blended families;
parenting; pre-marital assessment; and emotional and spiritual
growth.
St. Francis High School –
Thomas Bednar
St. Francis High School, also known as St. Francis , SFCP, or SFHS amongst its students and faculty, is a co-educational, college preparatory, Roman Catholic secondary school located in Wheaton, Illinois and was founded in 1956 by the Christian Brothers, Franciscan Sisters, and Ladies of Loretto. It is currently operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Joliet in Illinois. St. Francis strives to prepare its students for college, and thus sets high academic standards. The school is relatively small compared to other high schools in the area. The admissions process requires an incoming freshman to have above-average grades. St. Francis has had a good record of success in allowing its students to achieve high potential, with 97% of its 2007 senior class going on to college, some earning a combined $8.1 million in scholarships. St. Francis is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
