“I enjoy meeting so many different people and learning about all of the businesses in the area,” said Erika, “My family and friends are here, so now it is a privilege to say that my business connections are in Naperville, as well. For me, it is a dream job to work where I live while promoting awareness of NCTV17 in our community.”
Erika, a University of Illinois graduate, accepted the position at NCTV17 in 2011 after working for eight years in the Membership Department at Edward Health and Fitness Center. In her current position, Erika cultivates relationships and builds partnerships with businesses in the community to help them connect to the station through various marketing, advertising and sponsorship opportunities.
On her second day on the job at NCTV17, Erika attended her first Women in Business breakfast. Since then, she has continued to attend the wide variety of Chamber events that are available. Erika credits the Chamber’s numerous breakfasts, luncheons, Ribbon Cuttings, and After-Hours Events for putting her in direct contact with other professionals that she may not have otherwise had the opportunity to meet. She is also currently enrolled in the Chamber’s Leadership Institute where she looks forward to identifying her personal strengths as well as learning new leadership skills and recognizing opportunities for growth.
Erika’s advice to other women in business:
Believe in the mission of your place of employment—if you enjoy what you do, you’ll never feel like your job is “work.”
Always be able to provide ideas or solutions to help further the mission of your workplace because “if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.”
Take pride in your work and anything that is attached to your name.
Outside of her professional life, Erika has completed a half-marathon and full marathon. Her next challenge is to complete the Naperville Triathlon this summer. She also enjoys catching up with friends over her perfect meal (cheese, chocolate and wine) and loves spending time with her two nieces.
