Wheaton College graduate Justin Ancona and 4-Star Recruit Phasu Sirinit beat ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) player Jeremy Sonkin and former North Central College coach Mike Patrick in the third annual $300 PRIZE MONEY ETA Tour Doubles Championship. The recent college graduate and up-and-coming junior beat the veteran team 7-5 to take the championship and the prize money.

“Tonight was a battle between young guns and smart veterans” John Mittvick said, Director of the ETA Tour Doubles Tournament. “We saw youth outplay the experienced experts in a rare streak of brilliance for Phasu and Justin” Mittvick said.

This tournament brings excitement back into the tennis world. The way the tournament is formatted puts pressure on each doubles team. The format for the tournament is round robin with Fast5 scoring. This means that each match is play to best of 5 with no-ad and service lets are played. This helps prepare the high-performance athletes for division one tennis where the rules are similar. “We are trying to create an environment where players have to function well under pressure and come out strong from the start of the match” Mittvick said.
