Election Day Has Arrived

Election Day is November 5th

After months and months of an historically significant campaign season, Election Day is finally upon us. Polls will be open on Tuesday, November 5, from 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Tuesday represents the final opportunity to make your voice heard.  If you have not already taken advantage of vote-by-mail or in-person early voting, we strongly encourage you to exercise your right to vote before the polls close on Tuesday.

In addition to the Presidential race, and races that will determine control of the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, many other important state and local races will be decided on Tuesday.

Federal – In Illinois, all Congressional seats are up.  However, due to staggered six-year terms, neither U.S. Senator for Illinois is up for election this cycle.

State – The elections for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Comptroller, and Treasurer are held during off-year (midterm) elections, and are therefore two years away.  All 118 seats in the Illinois House are up for election.  Due to the way the Illinois State Senate staggers their terms to accommodate 2 four-year terms and a two-year term within a ten-year legislative map, not every seat is up this cycle.

Local – Circuit Clerk, Coroner, State’s Attorney, Auditor, Recorder, and County Board seats and specialty districts will also be contested in local counties.

Judiciary – Depending on your individual ballot, you may see Circuit Court or Appellate Court judges running for election in vacant positions.  You may also see judicial candidates facing the voters for retention in their current positions.  There are also Supreme Court races in the 1st District (Cook County) and the 4th District.  Both candidates are running opposed.

Ballot measures – In addition to the offices up for election and any local referenda, 3 statewide ballot measures will also be presented to voters for their consideration.  They are all advisory and non-binding.

  • Should any candidate appearing on the Illinois ballot for federal, State, or local office be subject to civil penalties if the candidate interferes or attempts to interfere with an election worker’s official duties?
  • Should the Illinois Constitution be amended to create an additional 3% tax on income greater than $1,000,000 for the purpose of dedicating funds raised to property tax relief?
  • Should all medically appropriate assisted reproductive treatments, including, but not limited to, in vitro fertilization, be covered by any health insurance plan in Illinois that provides coverage for pregnancy benefits, without limitation on the number of treatments?
