Let’s ChatGPT

Each month, I look to draw inspiration from our Members in order to write meaningful content for my monthly “President’s Corner” blog.   Much like you, finding the time to put pen to paper (so to speak) never ceases to be a challenge.  So, I tried something EVERYONE is talking about.  Enter the Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer; a.k.a. ChatGPT.

This month’s blog started when I asked my new friend ChatGPT a detailed question.  Here is the question:

Draft a 500 word article for me on what it means to be a thought leader. Have it be professional, but also approachable. The focus is the business community. It should be challenging, yet encouraging.

The content below is the response ChatGPT gave me…without edits.

“In today’s business world, being a thought leader has become a buzzword. But what does it really mean to be a thought leader, and how can you become one? Simply put, a thought leader is someone who has a deep understanding of their industry or niche, and who is able to share their insights and ideas with others in a way that is both innovative and influential. In this article, we’ll explore what it means to be a thought leader in the business community, and offer some tips for how you can become one.

At its core, being a thought leader is about having a unique perspective on your industry or niche, and being able to articulate that perspective in a way that inspires others. This requires a deep understanding of the issues and trends that are shaping your field, as well as the ability to think creatively and critically about those issues. As a thought leader, you should be able to identify emerging trends, offer innovative solutions to complex problems, and provide insights that others may not have considered.

But being a thought leader is more than just having great ideas. It’s also about being able to communicate those ideas effectively to others. This means being able to craft compelling narratives, create engaging content, and build relationships with your audience. Whether you’re speaking at a conference, writing a blog post, or engaging with followers on social media, you should be able to convey your ideas in a way that is both approachable and professional.

So how can you become a thought leader in your field?
Here are a few tips:
Build your expertise: To be a thought leader, you need to have a deep understanding of your industry or niche. This means staying up-to-date on the latest trends and developments, reading widely, and engaging with other experts in your field. By building your expertise, you’ll be better positioned to offer unique insights and perspectives.
Create compelling content: Whether you’re writing blog posts, creating videos, or engaging on social media, you should strive to create content that is both informative and engaging. This means focusing on topics that are relevant to your audience, and presenting your ideas in a way that is easy to understand and digest.
Network with others in your field: Building relationships with other thought leaders and experts in your field can help you expand your reach and influence. Attend conferences, join industry groups, and engage with others on social media to build your network and learn from others.
Be willing to take risks: To be a thought leader, you need to be willing to challenge the status quo and take risks. This means being willing to share your ideas even if they’re unpopular, and being willing to experiment with new approaches and strategies.

Being a thought leader is not easy, but it can be incredibly rewarding. By developing your expertise, creating compelling content, building your network, and taking risks, you can establish yourself as a leader in your field and inspire others to follow your lead. So don’t be afraid to share your ideas and insights with the world – you never know who you might inspire.”

This was mind-bending… and, it was just the first draft! I could have responded and massaged the style or tone. I could have manually edited the content ChatGPT provided.  There are so many possibilities with this technology.

I am reserving my opinions on its presence for now, though I clearly see the possibilities for increased efficiency, as I saved myself over an hour writing this!

I did, however, ask my new writing partner a follow-up question about the Naperville, Illinois business community.  The response is one I wish I could take credit for…

Overall, Naperville’s business community is characterized by innovation, collaboration, and a strong commitment to community. The city’s businesses and organizations work together to support each other and to make Naperville a great place to live, work, and do business.

Thanks, ChatGPT.  I agree, Naperville is a great place to live, work, and do business.
