In April, the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce (NACC) engaged in impactful advocacy efforts, demonstrating our commitment to advancing the interests of our members and the broader community. Notable highlights include a productive trip to Springfield, a constructive roundtable discussion with local state officials, and the initiation of our inaugural legislative agenda survey.
On April 10th, NACC President/CEO Kaylin Risvold and Government Affairs Manager Nadine Scodro accompanied chamber members Jenny Duranski, Matthew Shipley, and Robert Slayton, participating in a comprehensive legislative briefing in Springfield. We had the privilege of receiving updates and insights from bipartisan leaders in the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as pertinent federal updates. Our subsequent meetings with Senator Laura Ellman, Representative Stephanie Kifowit, and Representative Janet Yang Rohr provided valuable opportunities to address critical issues such as BIPA reform and the opposition to HB 5345, which threatens the tipped credit for various industries. These discussions underscored the importance of advocating for policies that support small businesses and vibrant communities.
Building on this momentum, on April 25th, the NACC collaborated with the Naperville Development Partnership, the Illinois Restaurant Association, and local restaurant owner Michael Vai to host a roundtable meeting opposing HB 5345 which would eliminate the tipped credit. This event facilitated meaningful dialogue between restaurant owners, their staff, and state elected officials, highlighting the adverse impact of proposed legislation on the restaurant industry. We extend our gratitude to all participants and especially to Michael Vai for his exceptional dedication to this cause.
Furthermore, the Chamber extends gratitude to Rep. Terra Costa Howard, Rep. Harry Benton, and the Chiefs of Staff for Sen. Laura Ellman, Sen. Linda Holmes, Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel, Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, and Rep. Janet Yang Rohr for their attendance, attentive listening, and guidance, insights, and feedback, which will be invaluable to obtaining a successful outcome.
Looking ahead, throughout May, NACC members will have the opportunity to contribute to our Legislative Agenda survey, reflecting our proactive approach to policy engagement. This brief survey aims to capture members’ perspectives on issues affecting their businesses, guiding our advocacy efforts and potentially influencing legislative initiatives. Your participation empowers us to effectively represent your interests and enhance the vitality of our business community.
We encourage all members to take a few moments to complete the survey when it is distributed via email, at events, during Chamber meetings or currently at this link. For any inquiries, please reach out to Nadine Scodro at nscodro@naperville.net. Together, we can shape policies, advocate for business prosperity, and foster a thriving environment for all. Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement.
